British Royal Air Force Pilot Dies in Spitfire Crash
Spitfire FR Mk XVIIIe Sustains Substantial Damage in Landing Accident
A Supermarine Spitfire FR Mk XVIIIe vintage aircraft sustained substantial damage when it was involved in a landing accident at Hildesheim Airport (EDVM) on Friday afternoon, May 26th, 2023.
The aircraft, owned and operated by Fliegerhorst GmbH CoKG, crash-landed after attempting to return to the airfield following an engine malfunction. The pilot, a British Royal Air Force pilot, was killed in the accident.
The crash is currently under investigation by the German Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation (BFU). The BFU will release a full report on the accident once its investigation is complete.
